Story
I'm so pleased to be able to join my sisters to do this 10km walk organised by The Mouth Cancer Foundation.
Our dear brother, Leo (Poldi as we called him affectionately) was diganosed with tongue cancer at the young age of 51. He fought such a brave battle for 10 years with his wonderful wife and four children by his side. The cancer returned after 6 years and despite intrusive surgery, radiotherapy and chemotherapy, it eventually spread to his neck. His last four years were very hard and by the end he was unable to speak or eat. He passed away in June 2020 and despite travel restrictions, my sisters, our mother and I were able to get out to Madrid and spend his last days with him and his family.
Finding meaning in times of loss is so hard for everyone. In our case, doing this walk will be a tremendously positive way to honour Poldi's memory and support such a worthy cause.
The Mouth Cancer Foundation exists to raise awareness and support for mouth cancer. The charity endeavours to promote, protect, educate and support the public. There are over 8700 new cases of mouth cancer in the UK each year with 2722 lives lost each year. World wide the disease affects 650000 people per year.
Thank you for visiting my Mouth Cancer 10km Awareness Walk fundraising page. Join us in London's Hyde Park on Saturday 24 September 2022.
