We provide care, education and therapy to children with brain injury.

Story

Mikail is my 11 year old son who was busy preparing for his 11+ exams (ah the stress of transitioning from primary to secondary school), studying from home some days and then back at school (thank god as social interaction is key as is playing with friends; let's not forget the discipline resultant of a teachers magic touch :)

On Monday, 14th September 2020 life changed. Mikail and his father were in a car accident on the way to school. They were stationary when a truck crashed into them.... from Mikail's side.

As I now process the gravity of the situation; I realise how fragile life is, but more importantly, how the support of our services, NHS, doctors, nurses, care givers, charities and so many more people support us in our time of need. The silent hero's - who help us when we need it most.

After spending c10 weeks at the Royal London Hospital in Whitechapel (they were superb - big shout out to Mikail's neuro surgical team lead by Mr Chris Uff and the entire paediatric and therapy team supporting us in ward 7C) we were released into residential rehabilitation for Acquired Brain Injury at The Children's Trust Tadworth - Surrey. This is where we are now. It has been about 6 weeks.

Mikail is making good progress and I hope and pray he will go from strength to strength.

I ended the year on a positive note. I am grateful. Grateful for life. Grateful for the care my son and his father received despite Covid challenges.

So here is what we're doing: we (my colleagues 18 of them & I)  will walk, run and/or cycle (any combination that takes our fancy) to show our support and motivate Mikail as he goes through his recovery journey: Mikail's Physical goal is to be able to run ( because he's a goalie and has to play football) and cycle (cause its fun) - walking of 'course was his very first step; its a goal he has achieved and is starting to master.

We will cover 875 kilometres (thats about 21 marathon's)  (this isn't just a random number but 25 weeks of recovery x 35 stitches across Mikail's head/skull)

During a time period of 2.5 months - from 11th Jan to 25th March (2.5 minutes was the time it took for Mikail to be transported from the site of the accident to the Hospital... this is what makes the difference between life and death)

We will track it and evidence our collective success - using any tracking device/ mechanism that does the job!

I am saying thank you, to the community and to The Children's Trust. Thank you to all Mikail's teachers, therapists, doctors and care givers; you make it possible... for us to recover. For us to understand what ABI entails. For us to move forward. For us to normalise our lives...

I am also saying thank you to my friends, my family, my firm and my colleagues - without your support I would not have been able to manage everything... and stand here today.

Thank you for your donation. Literally, every penny counts.
