Story
If you know me, there's a chance you didn't know I have Multiple Sclerosis and have had it for a while. I was diagnosed in 2008 after a string of strange occurrences took me from GPs office to an MRI machine. Thankfully my diagnosis was of Relapsing Remitting MS and it has very much been like that. In practice with my issues have never really made any lasting mark. In the 8 years of diagnosis I have been through a string of different treatments due to the rapidly evolving nature of my condition, with some being more effective than others: but I am stable and relapse free for a number of years now. These treatments have changed dramatically in recent times and this is made possible by the R&D completed by wonderful charities such as the MS Society.
The MS Society is dear to the hearts of anyone affected by MS, whether it be direct or not. Their publications are second to none and the network of local branches throughout the UK are providing some of the much needed social and palliative care that government schemes just aren't able to. I decided a couple of years back to join the Society as a member myself and look into volunteering. As a (relatively) young person with a lot of experience I thought I'd be in a good position to give something back into the community that helped me so much. I contacted the Stockport and South East Manchester Branch of the MS society to see what I could do with them and was quickly absorbed into being part of the local fundraising committee. As such I needed something to do to raise some funds, so I'm doing this!
So now you're probably thinking, "I've read the sob story and that's nice and everything, but I've seen these charity pages before. I'm not paying for him to go on holiday." You see, that's where I sympathize as this annoys me too. So you should be able to see the £1,150 donation made by me at the end of the donations, this is to cover the cost of the trip. I'm not having charitable donations pay for me getting out there or feeding me. Every penny donated now goes 50/50, half to the MS Society to help with research, lobbying and producing publications, and the other half going to the Stockport and South East Manchester Branch to help proving support to our local community.
So come on now, you've read this far, go click donate and put in a few quid!
Thanks!
