I'm planning to raise money for Marie Curie Cancer Care by taking part in a 5 hour spinning marathon. I lost my Dad to cancer when I was 17 and have I missed him being around throughout my adult life. So I have a personal experience of how hard it is to cope with cancer in a loved one and Marie Curie's help would have been invaluable. Through family and friends I have also witnessed the devastation this terrible disease can wreak on a family.

I think the work done by Marie Curie Cancer Care to assist folks dealing with cancer in their lives is wonderful, so when the opportunity arose to help I decided to take up the challenge! Even the smallest thing can make life easier or more bearable when under the stress of dealing with cancer, so by providing nursing care in the home or other support, Marie Curie Cancer Care can relieve an enormous amount of stress on a family. I like to donate to cancer charities whenever I can, but this time I decided to go out and do something myself. So here I am preparing to ride for 5 hours to raise money for Marie Curie Cancer Care. 'Spinning' is riding an exercise bike to music, working out to the direction of a class teacher who can make things quite difficult! Typically I burn 700 calories in a 45 minute session, so this will be quite a workout!

I'm a bit late coming to the party on this, as I'm a substitute for a rider who has had to withdraw. So I only have two weeks to raise as much money as I can before the event. I suggest a minimum donation of £5 (£1 an hour) and please tick the Gift Aid box, so that the charity can reclaim the tax already paid on the money you donate.
