Hi, for some crazy reason I have agreed to run the Brighton Marathon on April 15th. This is a massive challenge for me, I have never run anywhere close to a marathon before, apart from a cameo appearance once in the Amsterdam Marathon but that's a long story. If anyone can remember my appearances either for Showaddywaddy (the greatest 5-a-side team that has ever lived) or the friday football games, you'll know that I wasn't known for my great engine. I am however, completely committed to doing this, and I have started training with one of those proper plans, and everything.
As soon as I agreed to competing (or should I say just after I stopped laughing) I decided that I wanted to do this for charity. As most people know, my daughter who is now nearly five, was born with a rare chromosome disorder. Aside from a number of other symptoms that this has caused, the worst by far, is complex epilepsy.
To explain what I mean by 'worst'; it has been the reason that we have nearly lost her on several occasions, the reason why I know the insides of an ambulance far too well, it is the reason why we are still pumping her with ten tablets every single day, it has been the reason why we have never been able to go on a family holiday together outside of these shores, it has been the reason why my wife and I have never spent a night together alone for five years away from the kids, and to sum it up it has been the reason why I have felt like no Dad should ever feel about their little girl as they look into their eyes.
Epilepsy Action has helped my family as it helps thousands of families every single day. Epilepsy Action exists to improve the lives of everyone affected by epilepsy. As well as campaigning to improve epilepsy services and raise awareness of the condition, they offer assistance to people in a number of ways. These include a national network of branches and groups, epilepsy awareness volunteers, regular regional awareness days and freephone and email helplines.
Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - I raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity.
Please support me generously, so that we can raise as much as possible for this really great charity.
