I am hoping to raise lots of money for Big C having been touched by cancer personally.
8 years ago I lost my gorgeous wife and the boys their wonderful mum to breast cancer. After being diagnosed in March 2000 Jayne endured many months of chemotherapy and radiotherapy treatments which took their toll on her, yet she always tried to battle on and smile through all the difficult times. On her 34th birthday in February 2002 she lost her fight.
A damn good reason to help Big C which is why on 6th June I am going to cycle the Norwich 100.
Well, that was yesterday and after being woken up at 3am by torrential rain and thunder and lightning it wasn't looking good, the birds started chirping soon after so I never got back to sleep. So up at 5 for breakfast to get to Norwich for the 7.20am start. No rain now, feels like a perfect day for a ride.
So, well stocked up with drink and energy bars off we set. We being myself and Pete and James from work, oh and a few hundred other like minded mad people. Soon we are out of Norwich and setting a decent pace -for us that is. Through stops at Reepham then Hindringham, 70 miles to go, then before we know it we are at Sheringham the halfway mark. Feeling good actually, this is gonna be easy!
After a break off we go again, soon right past my front door but no stopping for a nap. Right knee is not happy. I see a sign, 40 miles to go, blimey feels like it should only be half that. Happisburgh and down comes the rain, great, now soaked through.
Horsey Mill, stop here to use facilities and another energy bar. Can't find Pete because there are 57 others who look just like him in their hi-viz jackets. Then James turns up. O there's Pete. Rain stops and most bits soon dry out.
9 miles to go says the sign. Neck is aching now, left knee too, back isn't too good either. Bums fine, great the cream is working!
3 miles to go, come on Mike you can do it.
2 miles to go. Everything hurts, bum is ok though-weird.
1 mile to go......yahoo!
Finish line-lots of people clapping and cheering-that's nice.
6 hours and 20 minutes, well I'm happy with that. Now, shall I see if I can beat that next year?..........................................
