At Overcoming MS, we exist to help people live well with MS. We help people discover the evidence-based Overcoming MS Program, get support from our expert team and worldwide community, and make lifestyle changes to live a full and healthy life with MS.

Story

Just over three years ago my wife, Helen, was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis. At that point, Helen was poorly and the prognosis wasn't good. Luckily for us, we found out about Overcoming Multiple Sclerosis (OMS) which, for the first time, gave us real hope. Since adopting the OMS lifestyle, Helen's health has improved dramatically as has her prognosis. We owe OMS a huge debt of gratitude and this is my way of saying thank you.

I will do a number of 'challenges' during the year in order to raise money for this very worthwhile cause. I've now completed the 1st challenge which was for me, a lifelong Chelsea fan, to dress and act as a Liverpool fan (complete with a Steven Gerrard shirt) for a day. I raised the fantastic amount of over £1700 ..... the only downside of which was that I had to keep my commitment to kiss the badge.

My second challenge was a Bushtucker Trial where, along with a number of colleagues, I dined on delicacies such as ants, a tarantula, worms and whatever could be scrounged from the local butcher. This took the total sum raised to £2700, which is brilliant.

My third and final challenge is one of endurance, fitness and stamina. Despite reminding my team of my advancing years, they are insisting that I do an 'office triathlon' - this entails running (or in my case walking) to the top of a 25 floor building. No doubt my colleagues will monitor my progress by gleefully zipping up and down in the lift. This will be followed by a trip to the gym where I will be doing a bit of cycling and rowing. All my efforts will be against the clock and I will have to pay a fine if I fail to complete any element within the time. I have little doubt that I will complete the whole thing while wearing attire which is both ridiculous and unhelpful.
