Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

In 2003 my sister Claire was diagnosed with breast cancer. This
treatment was considered successful, and Claire was in remission until unfortunately in 2011 it reappeared in her lymph nodes. This then progressed into her spine and hip.

From 2013 she has been receiving maintenance chemotherapy every 4 weeks, and has received over 120 sessions, all provided by the wonderful NHS. The financial cost of this does not bear thinking about, but as a family, we are eternally grateful for the care provided to Claire.

Unfortunately, late last year it was discovered that the cancer had progressed into her brain, she was given a terminal diagnosis, and
is receiving palliative care.

Throughout the 20+ years that Claire has had cancer, I have never once heard her complain or moan; I am in awe of how she has handled this.

To quote Claire word for word “Cancer can be a chronic Illness that needs to be managed but by no means a death sentence anymore”

The Challenge

As you might know, my passion is riding my bike.  I have decided to attempt a virtual ‘Everest’ challenge, which means choosing a hill and cycling up and down the same hill until you have reached 8,848 metres of ascent (the height of Mount Everest).

I have chosen to do this on a static bike trainer, riding a virtual hill known as ‘Alpe du Zwift’ and I have to ride up this mountain 8 ½ times which I estimate will take me 13-14  hours.

I will be undertaking this challenge at the grand opening of the brand-new Bicycle Chain store on Priory Bridge Rd Taunton on 29th Oct

Please feel free to either join me on Zwift or preferably come into the store where you can cheer or laugh at my endeavour and look at the nice new shiny bike stuff that will be on sale!
