It is a bit sad to report that the challenge is completed - 1000km completed on the 100th day of the year, April 10th. Sad in the sense that it had become a significant part of my day and, with very few moments of exception, I have enjoyed it very much. The Grand Walk in memory of Ray might be finished but certainly not the end of memory of Ray.

Ray sadly passed away at the end of November. His friends and family were sincerely appreciative of the medical and personal care, dignity and comfort experienced by him in the Hospice. The facility is so dependent on public support and I very much appreciate all the help in making a contribution to their financial needs in providing such a deeply human service.

The response has been fantastic - well beyond expectation. Whether by donation or just good wishes, I thank you all for your support of this venture.

It may be of interest (or not!), but the road distance from Ireland's Northern point to its Southern point is 549km, from the Western point to the Eastern point is 486km - a total of 1035km. Just short! Except for the fact that the extra 'bits' walked each day adds up to 45.15k. So, we have truly walked the length and breadth of the country, without leaving our 5km limit!! A nice stat to enjoy.
