Story

As you may remember in 2013 Campbell and I jumped out of a plane to skydive from 10,000 feet. This year we are climbing Kilimanjaro 19,330 feet (5,895m) nearly twice the height from which we jumped!

We leave the UK on the 16th June arriving at Kilimanjaro airport on the 17th.

18th June - a 4 hour trek through dense rainforest to reach the Mandara hut where we will spend our first night on the mountain. (altitude change Λ835m)

19th June - 6 hour trek through heath and moor to the Horombo hut - our second overnight stop (altitude change Λ1000m)

20th June - Acclimatization day - a short 4 hour trek! to view the zebra rocks.(altitude change Λ400mV400m)

21st June - 6 hour trek passing the "last water point" to traverse the nearly vegetationless plateau where the main summit Kibo joins with Mawenzi to reach Kibo hut. (altitude change Λ1000m)

22nd June - "The Big Day", the summit stage. We set off at midnight to begin the long and strenuous trek to the summit - Uhuru Peak at 5,895m the "Roof of Africa". Then folloiwing the same path we desend back down to Kibo hut then further down to the Horombo hut 12-14hours trekking!!! (altitude change Λ1192m V2175m)

23rd June- 6 hours - final descent down to Marangu gate and our hotel for a final night before heading home. (altitude change V1880m)

Arrive home in the early hours of the 25th.

Total distance trekked is 77kms

We are once again supporting SNAP (Special Needs and Parents) a local charity who support thousands of families in Essex.

Please give all you can to help support the fantastic work that SNAP does and to give Campbell and I the encouragement we need to make this challenging climb.

thanks also to www.imagineafrica.co.uk who have put this itinerary together for Campbell and me

Thank you
