Story
After cycling through wind and rain, getting chased by pike and battling blue-green algae while swimming in lakes and sweating my way round north Norwich on my runs, I think I’m about as ready as I will ever be for my first triathlon.
Following a half marathon last year, I was looking forward to participating in another event, and this year it is the Cambridge Olympic Triathlon on Sunday August 12th. For those who don’t know, an Olympic distance comprises a 1500m swim, followed by a 40km bike ride, topped off with a 10km run. I may not be up to true Olympic standard, but the aim is to finish and not be last!
I’ve decided to fundraise for East Anglia’s Children’s Hospices, who support families and care for children and young people with life-threatening conditions across Cambridgeshire, Essex, Norfolk and Suffolk. It is a very good cause, and more information about their work can be found on the website at http://www.each.org.uk/.
Any donation you can make would really be very much appreciated, and will hopefully give me the extra motivation I’ll need to make the distance!
Many thanks,
Mike Kingston – budding triathlete
