Sands supports anyone affected by the death of a baby, works in partnership with health professionals to try to ensure that bereaved parents and families receive the best possible care and funds research that could help to reduce the numbers of babies dying and families devastated by this tragedy.

Story

On the 17th September my wife, Sara, went into labour. On the 18th September we arrived at the University Hospital of Wales (Cardiff) in the early hours of the morning. When we arrived the medical staff were not able to find Milly's heartbeat. Sara gave birth to her naturally, 9 hours after receiving the distressing news. Our beautiful little girl was stillborn.

SANDS charity funded the room we stayed in overnight with Milly so that we could stay close to her and give her cuddles. The room allowed us to be close to Milly and away from the newborn wards. They also funded a memory box that the midwife gave us. This included a clay moulding kit for her hands and feet, a little booklet for hand and foot prints, a knitted pink teddy for Milly (in the photo at the top of this page), a crocheted blanket for her to be snug in and lots of booklets for supporting us. They also paid for a photographer to take photographs of Milly with us.

Without SANDS we would not have these special keepsakes, nor have spent quality, peaceful time with Milly that was so precious to us.

SANDS also run monthly support groups, fund research, inform healthcare professionals and publish books and journals.

We want to say thank you to SANDS and to help other parents going through a similar experience by pledging a donation.
