Trans Pennine Challenge 2013 · 22 June 2013 to 23 June 2013 ·

The Community of the Resurrection is based in Mirfield, West Yorks. We plan to build a new monastery, freeing the existing house to be reconfigured for the thousands who come each year. A fundraising campaign is underway, and we are very grateful to all those who have already given support.

Story

YESS!
100 km = 60 miles, south Manchester to Sheffield: I started Saturday 22 June at 08:00 and finished on Sunday 23 June at approx 13:45.

Day 1, 0-55 km, went really well. The overnight + Day 2, 55-100 km, were, I have to admit, more challenging. But the goal was achieved!

And an ENORMOUS word of thanks to all who have donated to this appeal. We exceeded the threshold target! Brilliant!

Keith

PS: And please note: the moneys donated so far have already been forwarded to CR; but the page is still open, so if anyone is minded to join in now, please do so!

Across 22 – 23 June (Midsummer Weekend, or juhannus for Finns), I walked over the Pennines from Manchester to Sheffield: 100 km in one go, on the TransPennine Challenge, see: www.transpenninechallenge.com/index.php

Any contributions go to the Community of the Resurrection (CR) Centenary Appeal at Mirfield: see their box over to the right. I’m supporting the CR Appeal because I’m a Companion of the Community.

If you would like to sponsor me, you can best do so by a donation through this JustGiving page, using a credit or debit card. This works not only in sterling for the UK, but also in euros or US dollars.

Whichever method you choose, the money donated goes to the CR Centenary Appeal.

For those of you who don’t know me, I’m a “Finlander from Yorkshire”: originally from East Yorkshire; school at Christ’s Hospital, university at Jesus College Cambridge; taught for three years in Tübingen, Germany, and then at the University of Turku in Finland for 40 years. Retired in 2012, and my wife Ruth and I are currently based in Manchester.

CR and I are very grateful for your support!

PS: The picture above was taken on a very abridged version of the Camino de Santiago de Compostela in autumn 2012 – considerably less strenuous than the Trans Pennine Challenge!  (And yes, I wore my excellent hiking kilt on the Challenge.)

I trained for the Challenge by hiking the canal towpaths of Greater Manchester and the Pennines – on one walk I did the Rochdale Canal from end to end: 52 km/32 miles, on my way to visit Mirfield – and also hiking on the bleak, magnificent high Pennine moors.
