From www.youngminds.org.uk :

YoungMinds is the UK’s leading charity committed to improving the emotional well being

and mental health of children and young people.

Rapidly societal changes have not all been positive for children and young people – many

are likely to grow up in broken or dysfunctional families, be the victims of crime or be

coping with drug and/or alcohol issues – not necessarily their own. Often demonised by

society thousands of children and young people are isolated, unhappy, have eating

disorders and self harm, some even commit suicide.

One in three children in every classroom has a diagnosable mental health disorder and

that’s just the ones that have been classified

One in five show signs of an eating disorder

One in 12 harm themselves

Two young people kill themselves every day.

There is still a huge stigma around mental health which means children and young people

are not getting the support they need. Disruptive, difficult, withdrawn and disturbed kids

need to be supported and not just ignored and told off. Investing in services and support

for young people not only reduces misery and loneliness, but saves millions in future costs

to the criminal justice system, NHS, education and social care costs.

Driven by the experiences of children and young people, YoungMinds campaigns:

to improve life chances for children and young people at risk of, and experiencing

difficulties with mental and emotional health

to achieve better outcomes for parents and families who engage with children and

adolescent mental health services

to promote the good mental health and emotional well-being of all children and young

people
