We work with local Kenyan people to educate and empower vulnerable girls

Story

Team Kenya’s an amazing charity that works with a community in rural Kenya. They provide opportunities to for women to go to school and teach them important skills. Every project changes someone’s life. Their mission is for every girl to have an equal opportunity to reach their potential.

I am a proud alumni of the Team Kenya Society at Newcastle university and I am so pleased to be running the Great North Run in aid of them.

Fewer than 20% of girls progress to secondary school in Homa Bay County, Western Kenya. Covid-19 has had a devastating impact on girls and, in schools not supported by Team Kenya, there has been a significant drop of 15-30% in the number of girls returning to school after the 9 month school closures imposed during the nationwide lockdown.  By contrast, 98.7% of girls supported by Team Kenya returned to school and had support to continue their studies throughout the school closures. Schools also provide a safe space from gender based violence. Girls attending Team Kenya supported schools are less likely to be forced or coerced into relationships that lead to teenage pregnancies and child marriages.

By donating you are supporting the education of vulnerable girls and women.
