Far too many of us have felt the pain of losing someone we love. With your donations, we power groundbreaking cardiovascular research to save and improve lives, bring hope to families, and keep hearts beating across the UK.

Story

Thanks for visiting my page. I'm raising money for the British Heart Foundation's research and I'd be so grateful for your support.

If you donated in the past then you'll probably know my story and thanks for coming back again.

My mum (and Dad) have always been roles models (work ethic, manners etc) but when my mum took sick 1999 it was a surprise - she NEVER got ill.
In 2000 she was admitted to Whipps Cross hospital where she also worked. Tests were run but consultants could not find the cause of her swelling abdomen. She was discharged home late March of 2000.
At this time I was a retail manager and away on a course in Wales so I would call every night to ask my dad how mum was doing - "She's fine / she's resting".
It was the last day of the course and returning back to London, I decided to get the tube from Kings Cross rather than take a scenic bus home.
I got home at minutes to 11pm and as I put my key in the door I heard a blood curdling scream / shout from my dad I will never forget. I ran up the stairs to find my mum on the floor. I tried to perform CPR whilst calling an ambulance.
Unfortunately she passed away in the early hours of April 5th 2000 of a heart attack.
I am grateful for the discipline, life lessons and love she gave me and I wouldn't be the person I am today without her.
I know she'll be watching over me and urging on through the toughest parts of the bike ride, it's just a shame she won't be at the finish line with her signature big smile.

The BHF has helped halve the number of people dying from heart and circulatory disease in the UK but sadly every day hundreds of people lose their lives. It's only thanks to support from people like us that the BHF can create new treatments and discover new cures. £24 could pay for two hours of research by an early career scientist, but every pound helps so please give what you can to help me hit my target. Thanks!
