Story

Thanks for stopping by to donate or take a peek.  Don't forget to donate and spread the page please.

It costs about £3000 for one child to come to Whoopsadaisy's parent and child groups for one year, where the child learns techniques to help gain maximum independence.

My beautiful niece Amelia will be 4 years old in December and has been diagnosed with the long term spastic diplegia cerebral palsy. This means that she cannot walk with her feet flat on the ground as the muscles in her legs are always stiff.  Amelia finds this very painful and therefore can only walk short distances supervised.

After a long wait, Amelia has been selected and approved by Great Ormond Street Hospital for a life altering operation called Selective Dorsal Rhizotomy (SDR).  This four to five hour procedure is under general anaesthesia, where a skin incision is made in the spine to identify the sensory roots mostly responsible for the stiffness (spascity).  About 70% of these will be cut to increase her ability to walk.

I am appealing to you and everyone reading this, because currently SDR is not funded by the NHS.  Amelia will need intense rehabilitation physiotherapy at least 3 times a week for an initial 2 years and then further specialist ongoing physiotherapy after that.

Just so you know how much Whoopsadaisy has helped Amelia so far, Amelia's mama says 'She now has changed from a really introverted little girl, who didn't interact well with other children, despite being in nursery from 8 months old, to developing best friends at nursery and interacting with other children.'

Amelia is going from strength to strength, thanks to the love and dedication of her family, friends and all the people that have contributed to help her come this far.  The time Amelia has had at Whoopsadaisy has given her so much confidence.  Please donate whatever you can, so Amelia can continue receiving the specialist physiotherapy she needs to reach her incredible potential.

A big THANK YOU on her behalf and a big hug and THANK YOU from me.

Check out the photos and videos to keep up with Amelia's progress and also to see the lovely hair I will be shaving off!
