Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.

4 men walking, 226 miles in 6 days!

In November 2005, our Mother Janice was diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma and underwent immediate treatment, unfortunately the first course of chemotherapy wasn’t successful and she was told that she may not survive longer than 6 months - as you can imagine this devastated our close-nit family.

No less than 9 years on (and still going strong!) she has endured numerous tests, various different chemotherapy regimes, bone marrow & stem cell treatments, hospital stays, several bouts of pneumonia, renal failure, a hip replacement and more recently; a complicated femur fracture where the operation to fix has found her with a short stay in intensive care and a month's stay in a hospital bed. After all of this, unbelievably, she is still fighting on! This is why we are taking on this crazy challenge- if one women can go through all of this and still have the courage and determination to keep battling this devastating disease, then 3 men in their 30s can walk 226 miles to raise awareness for Myeloma UK (and raise a bit of money along the way!)

Brett (Janice’s Son-in-law), along with Scott (Janice’s Son), and Dave (A close friend of Brett's) are walking 226 miles from Manchester to Southampton in January (that’s in wind, rain, hail and possibly snow!) over 6 days. This is averaging a marathon and a half every day starting on 12th January from Old Trafford, until they arrive at St Mary's Stadium, Southampton on 17th January!

The support vehicle will be driven by Bryan Simper (Janice's Husband). The support vehicle, a Kia Carens 3, has been kindly supplied by Hendy Kia of the Hendy Group. Keep an eye out for the vehicle between these dates as the March will not be far away!

In conjunction with the Myeloma March, Sheldon (Janice's son) along with his friend Steve Hughes, will be taking part in 3 Spartan Challenges as well as Tough Mudder and a few other gruelling challenges over the next few months. They will be raising money towards the Myeloma March and all donations will go to Myeloma UK!

Please give as much as you can afford and follow their journey on twitter @myelomamarch

Don’t forget to look out for them on their training walks around Hampshire. They will be wearing the bright orange Myeloma UK  T-shirt- Please give them a bit of encouragement!
