Many of you may not have heard of the charity LSN, but here's why they need our funds to continue to do such a great job.

Lymphoedema is a long term condition that causes swelling in the body's tissues. This is caused by a problem with the lymphatic system, with the vessels and glands not working as they should. 

In 2014 I was diagnosed with primary lymphoedema, which is the rarer condition. This effects both my lower legs with the right leg being worse than the left. Before changing my whole lifestyle and learning how to try and control the swelling the best I can I really struggled to come to terms with the condition and the physical and mental effects that came with it.

LSN provided all the help and support that the NHS couldn't, their telephone helpline was a savior to talk to people that could understand your state of mind. There were many days where I wouldn't be able to leave the house, or even put a pair of shoes on, spent days crying and not wanting to even look at the swelling on my legs. Through LSN I found a fantastic specialist doctor and had months of intense treatments and training on how to come to terms with lymphoedema and how to control the swelling the best I can, even if that meant changing my entire lifestyle.

I have my husband to thank for all his support he gives me on a daily basis, understanding that my lifestyle choices are for my health. He constantly does research on new procedures that have been released that could possibly help me (sadly none yet) and helps me push through the emotional side when I'm struggling with the swelling. My family and close friends are also a solid rock to me, and the great work my PT Conor does with me on a weekly basis training my legs but keeping within the restrictions of my limits.

I'm a strong person but many that struggle with lymphoedema aren't and I want to try and help LSN to keep going and hope that what I do can help someone else as it continues to help me.

When you're faced with a condition that will be with you for life the comfort of a support network like LSN is priceless.
