Story
Thanks for visiting my fundraising page and for taking the time to sponsor my 287 mile London-Paris bike ride, to raise money for the Wexham Park SCBU (Special Care Baby Unit).
For those of you who don't already know, baby Abigail was born on the 6th January 2010 in very poor condition, requiring significant resuscitation after birth. After suffering a number of seizures, the decision was made to start a pioneering treatment of "total body cooling" for three day's (see funky ice-pack style body warmer picture) to try and prevent any further damage to the brain.
Abigail remained on intensive 24 hour care within SCBU for the next two week's, until thing's slowly started to improve- albeit with more than the odd setback- with Abigail finally able to come home on January 29th.
Kelly and I are so indebted to the staff, equipment and facilities that were available to us that we decided it was time for me to get off my behind, get some lycra on- not a good look for me- and endure some severe "chaffing" raising some much needed money for the Wexham Park SCBU.
So, next June 15th- 18th I shall be re-enacting the early day's of June 1944 with my own two wheeled version of the D-Day landings, taking Paris by storm....or maybe, realistically, just a slow pedal!
Although the future development of Abigail is uncertain, without the "body cooling" treatment (which is not available at every hospital), the dedicated staff and intensive care that Abigail received during her stay, there would not have been a future......
Please, please, please give generously and help save more lives!!
Neil, Kelly & Abigail
