London Marathon 2012 – Hospice Aid UK
The 2012 London Marathon takes place on Saturday 22 April. The first London Marathon was held in 1981, and the race has grown in size, stature and popularity ever since. It is now well established as a major sporting event and is televised in more than 150 countries around the world. Approximately 818,000 people have completed the London Marathon over the course of its history.
I will be competing in the 2012 London Marathon in aid of Hospice Aid UK. Hospice Aid is a unique UK based charity delivering much needed grants to UK hospices and is the only UK charity for all UK Hospices. They give support where and when it's needed, and have provided support in all types of ways, whether to help buy specialist equipment, running costs, emergency funding such as baby units, or other areas that are difficult to get funding for.
Hospices throughout the country face the daily task of caring for those who sadly have little time left with us in the most dignified and compassionate way possible, at the same time offering respect and comfort to both the patient, loved ones and families around them.
Due to the current economic climate they are finding it increasingly difficult to meet the demand of the UKs Hospices.
As you can see if you visit their site they need all the help they can get and your support could be invaluable to them (http://www.hospiceaid.org.uk/)
I running seriously about 2-3 years ago and has been part of a small running group which has been set up with my work colleagues in Bracknell. I applied for the London Marathon way back in April 2011 and received the “good” news that I had won a ballot place in September 2011.
My exceptionally nice personality makes me very much in demand and has made making time for training a bit more of a challenge but I am currently running in excess of 2 hours at weekends and hope to complete the course in 4 ¾ hours and is hoping not to be overtaken by any rhinos or ostriches on the way.
I intend giving regular updates on my twitter feed (@real_nickwithey) and via Facebook on my never ending struggle to run the full 26 miles and 385 yards.
So please dig deep and donate now.
