Birmingham International Marathon 2017 · 15 October 2017 ·

It's bewildering and unsettling for anyone going into hospital but especially for children and that is why we are a fundraising hospital. We raise funds to enhance the experience of our patients by providing state of the art medical equipment and facilities and creating a child-friendly environment.

Story

I’m running the Birmingham International
Marathon to raise money for the Cochlear Implant Team at Birmingham Childrens’ Hospital. My very good friend Kate Hanvey (pictured on the left) heads the team and says:
‘We need 3 pots of large amounts of money! £10K to get 3 staff trained to deliver highly specialized therapy to guide and coach parents to teach their profoundly deaf children to talk and have age appropriate speech and language (it's a 3 year masters level training!). That's the priority. Second is to buy equipment which is also around £10K which will help us differentially diagnose children so they get their cochlear implants earlier and so we can tailor programmes for the kids with complex needs after they've had their CI so they hopefully make better progress. Third is about making our waiting and reception areas into a more pleasant environment for our young patients and their families.’

Any donation you can make will be very welcome. Thank you! Nicola x
