My name is Lee Horseman. I am 45 years old, work as a Quality Control Supervisor for a Chemical Company. Originally from Billingham, I now live in Hutton Rudby with my Wife & Son.

I have been cycling for over 25 years, starting from a young age and have participated in the sport both competitively and recreationally with me now going more into the endurance/ultra side of the sport.

I have successfully completed several endurance cycling events over the last few years, including:

- Newcastle-London in 24 hours (340 miles)

- Coast to Coast in a day (155 miles)

- Beat the Beast (200miles) in Yorkshire

- The Marmotte in the French Alps 2018 & 2019 (107 miles over 4 Mountain passes)

- London Kings Cross back up to Hutton Rudby (270 miles) in 19hrs

- From Hutton Rudby, up the West Coast to Fort William and finishing in Edinburgh (500 miles in 3 days)

- Hutton Rudby to Lands End, up to John O’Groats and back down to Hutton Rudby (1870 miles) in 15 days

Across several of the above events I raised approximately £5000 for Macmillan Cancer Support, choosing this charity after they helped my mum before she lost her battle with Cancer in 2011.

For my next challenge I have chosen to this time support The Russ Devereux Headlight Project.

RDHP serves the Tees Valley area offering emotional wellbeing support for Adults and Children with a particular focus in supporting individuals and families who have been affected by suicide.

The Event is The North Cape 4000 (www.northcape4000.com) and will be my biggest challenge to date. I wanted to do something that will push my limits both mentally and physically and to raise awareness and money for an incredible local charity at the same time.

I will be one of 300 Solo, unsupported cyclists (the same as my previous events) meaning that I am on my own throughout the duration of the event with no assistance or support team alongside me.

Starting in Lake Garda, Italy on July 23rd 2022 going up through six European countries to the North Cape, Norway (Arctic Circle) I will cover 2400 miles in approximately 14 days.

Any support and donations for my challenge would be gratefully received and help this amazing local charity continue to do the great work it does.

The Russ Devereux Headlight Project was founded in memory of Russell Devereux by his wife Catherine. Russ tragically died by suicide on 6 May 2018 age 41 leaving behind three young children. The aim of the project is to work with children, delivering emotional resilience programmes in schools. The Project also offers play therapy for children and one to one counselling for both children and adults and has a particular focus on helping families bereaved by suicide.
