We provide information, help and support to sufferers of Pernicious Anaemia (PA) including their families and friends. Our Mission: To secure a full and comprehensive review of the way in which Pernicious Anaemia is diagnosed and treated that will lead to more timely diagnoses and better treatment

Story

The term “pernicious” means “fatal.”  The condition is called pernicious anemia because it often was fatal in the past, before vitamin B12 treatments were available. Now, pernicious anemia usually is easy to treat with vitamin B12 injections, however many GP's are unaware of how to treat it correctly.

With ongoing care and proper treatment, most people who have pernicious anemia can recover, feel well, and live normal lives.  Without treatment, pernicious anemia can lead to serious problems with the heart, nerves, and other parts of the body. Some of these problems may be permanent.

The PA Society are a registered charity that exists to provide information, help and support to sufferers of Pernicious Anaemia (PA) and B12 Deficiency. They seek to improve current and future diagnosis and treatment of Pernicious Anaemia. For more information about the illness, please visit the Society's website: www.pernicious-anaemia-society.org/index.php

I have suffered from this condition for the past 7 years (diagnosed at 21).  The PA Soc have helped me by giving me advice and attempting to raise the profile of the condition, however being a small charity (based in Bridgend) there is only so much they can do without funding and donations.

20-26th October is Pernicious anaemia awareness week and I have left it too late to organise anything that relates to fundraising so instead have set up a page for donations.  Please do your bit to raise awareness of the forgotten disease.

Many thanks

Nadine
