Story
Thank you for visiting my JustGiving page!
This year I will be running the Bupa 10K for Epilepsy UK. My uncle sadly passed away following an epileptic fit around 15 years ago. Just recently a friends brother has also been diagnosed following a motor cycle accident, and this has prompted me to dust off the trainers and have a go at tackling the 10K.
Epilepsy is more common than you probably think, affecting 1 in 200 people. Whilst the cause of epilepsy is unknown for around 60% of sufferers. Epilepsy is something anyone can get, the most common cause of epilepsy for around 30% of sufferers is a head injury. Think of that time you walked into a low doorway, fell down the stairs or tripped over after a few drinks.
For around 70% of suffers the seizures can be treated and controlled, however the drugs used generally cause nasty side effects. Seizures affect not only the person with Epilepsy but also their family and friends, and can be a frightening thing to watch. Epilepsy cannot be cured.
Thanks again for taking some time out to read this, please dig deep x
