I have signed up to the Lakeland 50(50 mile trail race) in July to raise awareness and hopefully some funds for Little People UK. To help support them as they have our family. Little People uk is a charity in England that provides support and medical information to people with dwarfism and their families.

Dwarfism facts 

There are over 200 different types of dwarfism.

Eighty percent of people with dwarfism have average height parents and siblings.

A child with dwarfism is born 1 in every 25,000 births.

Dwarfism is a condition that affects bones and cartilage. An individual’s intelligence and abilities are the same as anyone else’s.

There are an estimated 7000 people with dwarfism in the UK and  652,000 in the world.

Why am I fundraising? Our daughter was born with Achondroplasia a skeletal condition which causes dwarfism. Annabelle is full of life, happy, healthy and cheeky! just like any other 4 year old however I have always been aware of the many physical and social barriers she will face as time goes on. When Annabelle was diagnosed at 9 months I couldn’t look too far into the future without feeling worried about the struggles she will be faced with and didn’t feel like we really had anyone to turn to for advice (which I know sounds completely crazy as we have amazing family and friends). I felt no one was quite in the same boat or fully understood our situation or Annabelle’s condition. That was until last August, when we were introduced to Little People UK and attended our first LPUK convention. It was finally an opportunity for us to speak to other parents, a specialist medical team and the highlight for me personally was having the opportunity to speak to and learn from some inspirational young women, with the same condition as Annabelle. For the first time since Annabelle was born we felt like we belonged. LPUK is an amazing charity that is passionate about raising awareness, increasing social acceptance and supporting individuals with all types of dwarfism and their families.
