Story
As you may have guessed, I am not known for my natural sporting abilities. In fact, remember the kid who was always picked last for rounders? Yep, that was me! But I have always tried to keep myself fit and healthy, so here I am, a mid-forties mum, working full-time, who has decided that now is time to run my first (and I expect last) 10k. This will be a challenge for me as I have never attempted a fun run (or walk) of any distance, so as long as I make it across the finish line I'll be happy.
In honour of the NHS celebrating its 70th anniversary, the Trust are pitching a team of '70 at 70', which means that I will be one of 70 people, mainly colleagues plus some supporters, to boost charitable funds for our services.
The hospital, clinics and community services have played an important role in the lives of not only my family but also many friends over the years. In addition I am of the generation that has had to access both paediatric and elderly care for loved ones. I have been lucky enough to witness care from different aspects; as a family member, friend, or patient and as a member of staff.
