St Luke's Hospice (Harrow And Brent) - Shropshire Way Sponsored Walk · 28 April 2011 ·
Hello!
My mother Eveline passed away from lung cancer last year. Since then, I have wanted to give a little back in her memory. I was told about the 74-mile, 5-day Shropshire walk by a friend who I completed a Macmillan Iceland trek with almost 10 years ago. I have always loved trekking and, rather than travelling to a far-flung destination, I have chosen to explore the natural beauty on my doorstep.
Why St Luke's Hospice?
St Luke's Kenton Grange Hospice provides free outpatient and inpatient palliative care for people with cancer and other serious progressive illnesses. Mum used to love pottering around our local St Luke's Hospice charity shop and the hospice in Kent was the place she chose to care for her near the end, although sadly she never made it there due to the rapid progression of her cancer. However, we both benefited from the kindness and support of nurses that had extensive experience with the hospice and praised its services most highly.
Donations
I am covering all my own costs, accommodation and transport, so ALL proceeds from sponsorship will go towards St Luke's Kenton Grange Hospice. Funds are greatly needed as the hospice's operating costs are £3.5 million per annum and less than 30% of this amount is received from statutory bodies, the rest coming from voluntary contributions and fundraising events.
I am hoping to raise a minimum of £800. However, I would be grateful for ANY contribution for what I believe is a worthy charity that truly makes a difference to the lives of those with terminal illnesses.
Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - I raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity.
Thank you.
