Young people and families from all over Hackney have been supported by Hackney Quest since 1988. We provide long term projects for the benefit of families and young people at risk of social exclusion; positive activities, family support, mentoring, adult and youth volunteering and much, much more.

Story

Five years ago I lost my brother John suddenly in a road accident; he was 36 years old. John is a much loved son, partner, uncle and friend, and our loss will be felt forever.

We set up the John Paul Clarke Foundation the year we lost John to honour his memory, so that his positivity and heart would continue to be felt not just by us but by others. Since then many of us have raised money in his memory: jumping out of planes, running half marathons and attacking obstacle courses. The money we have raised has gone towards a number of charities but they are all ones that share the same goal: to help young people fulfil their potential. To develop their skills, opportunities and lives. Or have a safe bed for the night. Without the money we raise, this simply wouldn't happen.

After a couple of years break a team of his friends and family on Saturday 7th September 2019 are planning to walk the Thames Path Bridge Challenge : 25 km crossing 16 bridges in London.  John grew up, lived in and loved London, so it feels fitting.

This time we are raising money for Hackney Quest, a charity that works with the local community at a grass roots level.  The money we raise will specifically go towards helping support children and young people in Hackney and beyond. We have supported Hackney Quest since the beginning and the money raised has funded a number of initiatives that have had a REAL personal impact on children living in the community. We have funded an annual creative residential for 3 years, providing 'life changing' experiences and skills. Every year the crucial primary to secondary school transition programme has been funded.  We also have created the John Paul Bursaries.  The bursaries are awarded to children who show talent and passion across a number of diverse areas; be it drama, music, photography, public speaking or business development,  but who may not have the financial means to develop it.  It's extremely rewarding -  they are inspiring young people - and John would be proud to be a part of it.

If we raise enough money this year, we can continue to ensure that all these initiatives can continue for years to come. Without it, they simply would not happen.
