Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page!

At the end of July this year I will be undertaking the Ride London 100 mile bike race. I would love to use this opportunity to ride and fundraise for the Save The Children charity.

You will have heard of the refugee crisis, brought about by multiple recent conflicts around the world. These conflicts have forced vulnerable civilian people, that become caught up in war zones, to flee their home country for fear of being killed.

The Syrian Civil war continues to be by far the biggest driver of migration and there are now over 2 million Syrian child refugees. Those that are unable to leave the country live in constant fear of barrel bombs, air strikes and shelling. Not only this but these individuals are highly vulnerable to death by starvation. Due to war, there is scarce food available and Children are forced to eat one meal a day of boiled leaves and animal feed.

Children living in war are also impacted by devastating psychological trauma of seeing family members killed and living in constant fear of bombs. Thousands of the children that have fled Syria have arrived in foreign countries, such as the UK, without anyone to look after them, their carers either deceased or missing. Save The Children aims to provide food, safe water, medicine, protection, shelter, psychological support and education to these besieged areas, as well as support for children that have arrived alone in Europe as refugees.

Above and beyond this, Save the Children are helping millions of other children affected by other crises.
