3 Peaks Challenge · 3 August 2013

Every year we support thousands of children and families right across the country. We provide rehabilitation to help children make the best recovery possible after a serious accident or illness, both at our national specialist centre in Tadworth and in the community.

Story

This very weekend (over 3-4 August) I will be doing the Three Peaks Challenge as part of a gang of 10 ragtag ramblers from L&G.

This involves getting to the top of the highest mountains in Scotland, England and Wales and driving between them all in 24 straight hours. That's 3000m to climb, 25 miles to cover on foot and 462 miles to drive. We aim to start at Ben Nevis at 6am on Saturday. We might well struggle to wake up that early.

I'm doing this in aid of The Children's Trust. They provide support to kids with acquired brain injuries or multiple disabilities nationally, but they are actually based just down the road from our office. There they have kids stay over with their families for specialist help and expertise. They also run the School for Profound Education there.

Here's some wording from JustGiving themselves on how this page works:

UPDATE - 12/8/2013

Well we went for it. Unfortunately, due to time constraints (we had a slow vehicle and we were slow) we were only able to climb Ben Nevis and Snowdon over the weekend. We were too optimistic about our timings and that cost us in the end.

The team is gutted about what happened, and I hope that we get another chance to do the challenge together.

However, by coincidence, I spent the week following the 3 Peaks attempt up in the Lake District with my family - where the elusive third peak is located. I wanted to take the opportunity to redeem myself about what happened the previous weekend and at the same time make a day out of it. I somehow managed to convince 13 members of my family to join me in climbing Scafell Pike on what turned out to be an extraordinary day for us all. And I'm so happy that I at least managed the 3 Peaks in a week.

I want to say a huge, huge thank you from me to those who have sponsored me/my team. We've raised a lot of money so far:
