Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
On the 11th June, I, will be taking part in the Deloitte Ride Across Britain 2011 challenge http://www.rideacrossbritain.com/ ; cycling the entire length of Britain from John O Groats to Lands End. Not content with merely cycling this distance, I will be completing this cycle challenge in just under nine days. Over these 9 days I will cycle over 1000 miles and climb over 35,000 feet (more than the height of Everest).
I am cycling in aid of Southmead Hospitals Neo-Natal Intensive Care Unit for sick and premature babies in Bristol. In September 2008 my wife Rebecca gave birth to our twin daughters Isabella and Eliza 15 weeks early at just 25 weeks into her pregnancy. They both weighed less than 2lb and were no bigger than the size of my hand.
As a result of the expertise and dedication of the staff at Southmead NICU my girls were able to fight a number of extremely tough battles and after 17 long weeks were able to come home for the first time. By cycling from John O Groats to Lands End I will be raising money to thank Southmead for all the care and support they gave my whole family during our stay and also in the two years since our discharge. The money raised will be put towards improving the environment and facilities on the NICU. This will mean that the unit will be more inviting for parents and that it will be able to offer parents greater opportunities for them to bond and interact with their baby during their stay on the unit.
