Myeloma UK is the only organisation in the UK dealing exclusively with myeloma. We provide information and support to patients and their families and help myeloma patients live longer, with a better quality of life by accelerating the discovery, development of and access to new treatments.

Story

Hi all,

On the 4th September 2005 my father in law was diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma which is a rare form of cancer. At the age of 49 it was seen as being very rare for someone as young as he was at the time. Since then he has had 2 relapses, 2 bone marrow transplants and is currently in remission. On the 17th August this year, a very close friend of my Wife’s family, Emma, was also diagnosed with the same rare form of cancer at the age of 28 and is currently undergoing treatment.

As some of you that know me are aware, I enjoy cycling and taking part in the odd triathlon. Rather than asking people to sponsor me in events that I enjoy and would do anyway, my plan is to compete in Ironman Wales next September 8th which is a triathlon consisting of a 2.4 mile swim in the Bristol Channel, followed by a 112 mile bike ride which is then followed by running a marathon (26.2 miles), potentially taking in the region of 12 hours to complete. Please believe me when I say, competing in an Ironman Triathlon is truly something that does not take my fancy, in fact it is making me feel sick just thinking about it now! As part of my training leading up to the main event, I will be taking part in a number of triathlon’s (one of which will be a half Ironman in Nottingham next June) and possibly some other more obscure events during next year.

Myeloma UK's mission is to provide information and support to people affected by myeloma and to improve standards of treatment and care through research, education, campaigning, and raising awareness. Any donation you make will make a huge difference.

Thank you for your support and please take time out to read Emma's blog http://www.ejbones.wordpress.com
