My name is Nerissa Bungaroo, cancer survivor. Most of you know me...and you probably have already helped me in the past in my fight against cancer.
When you are facing cancer and the challenges that come with it, it can be difficult to cope not only with the pain, but also with changes to your body, one of which is hair loss. As I constantly look to find ways to continue fighting this terrible disease, this year I have made the decision to chop off my long hair and donate it to Little Princess Trust, a charity which makes wigs for little girls going through cancer.
Meanwhile, I will also be raising funds for Teenage Cancer Trust, a UK based charity supporting young people with cancer before, during and after their treatment.
I am dedicating my efforts to people who are very special to me and are fighting cancer right now:
- The children at Sick Kids Hospital in Toronto, most importantly Ayden Hendricks.
- Paolo who has just had his tumour removed and now on the road to recovery.
- My friend, Federico Prosperi who is fighting very hard but reaching the finish line very soon
- My Uncle Raj Bungaroo, to whom I'm very close with and who has been diagnosed with Stage IV Lung Cancer and is now having radiation treatment. He has been the trigger for me cutting my hair and doing this fundraising. He has chosen himself Teenage Cancer Trust as the charity he would like me to raise funds for. I have had the pleasure of working and volunteering for Teenage Cancer Trust and I have been visiting one of the many units they have built. There I have witnessed the fantastic improvements to the patients' life they catalyse. It looked like a different world compared to what I had experienced when having Leukaemia in my teens as well, so I am very supportive of their cause.
My uncle is one of many going through this invisible disease. The fight against cancer goes on. There is no one I know who can say they DO NOT have a friend or relative who has battled this terrible illness.
I am asking for your support. Your contribution will help step up the fight against cancer and its consequences to peoples lives.
Thanks in advance for your thoughtfulness and generosity and millions of thanks for your help in making a difference in the lives of those affected by cancer!
Nerissa
