British Divers Marine Life Rescue is an organisation dedicated to the rescue and well being of all marine animals in distress around the UK. Continuing to train teams of volunteers and maintaining specialised equipment is vital and your support will help us continue our important work.

Story

Thank you to everyone who sponsored me. I finished the marathon in 3 hours and 52 minutes and thanks to your help we raised enough money for a seal kennel.

Original story below;

In March 2013  I took part in a "British Divers Marine Life Rescue" (BDMLR) Marine Medic Course with my son James. Following that course we both became qualified marine mammal medics.

Marine mammal medics are trained personnel who are called up to deal with marine animals that have stranded themselves on Scotland's coastline. These animals include whales, dolphins and seals.

Scotland is home to two species of seal: The Grey seal and the Harbour seal. If an injured, lost or orphaned seal is encountered it is taken to special rescue centres around the country. The prefered method of moving the seals is using a seal kennel: a large cage which can safely hold the seal during the relocation stages.

Unfortunately there  isn't a kennel anywhere in the area I live in (South Ayrshire) meaning a long wait would be required if such a rescue took place. If we have possession of a seal kennel it means there will be a readily available kennel in South Ayrshire making seal rescues all the more easier!

I am taking part in the Loch Ness Marathon to earn funds to purchase the kennel which will be used in seal rescues in the area.

Please help Nessie save the seals!!!
