Story
Neve was a happy, healthy little girl with a captivating smile and a love for everyone.
Neve was taken into hospital on 28th April with an ongoing seizure - the hospital couldn't stop it and eventually she was placed in a coma on life support and transfered to St Mary's PICU where she stayed for 10 days.
A Mitochondrial Disease was suspected but the hospital continued with EEG's, MRI's, CT Scans, Ultrasounds, 4 Lumber Punchers and numerous blood tests. Eventually they performed a muscle and skin biopsy they advised the results would take 6-8 weeks.
As Neve had a 11 week old sister Reese, St Mary's transfered her back to our local hospital at the end of May on the Bank Holiday.
We were finally given the results of the biopsy on the 9th June, Neve had Alpers Disease - the doctors predicted that she would only have days, maybe weeks to live.
Neve lost her battle with Alpers 6 days later on the 15th June - she died peacefully in our arms 9 days before her 2nd birthday.
6 weeks after Neve died, Reese was also diagnosed with Alpers. The doctors and specialists advised us just to enjoy the time with Reese, they couldn't tell us how long she would have with us and there was no treatment they could offer.
We put in place a care plan for Reese so that she would not suffer when the siezures started. Reese lost her batte with Alpers on 23rd March'11, 12 days before her first birthday.
All money raised for Neve and Reese and the Ryan Stanford Appeal will be used to investigate the disease, hopefully to find a cure, as at the moment this disease is always terminal and watching the little girl's you loved so completely taken from you is devastating - no parent should have to go through this, ever.
