Tough Mudder 5k London North 2020 · 9 October 2020 to 10 October 2020 ·

The Dockland Settlements has been supporting vulnerable, lonely or disadvantaged people since 1894. Currently we run three community centres, two pre and after-school playcare services and a food bank. We support our local communities but our focus is on the most vulnerable & isolated.

Story

On Friday 17th April  @ Finsbury park a brave team of nine NewmanFrancis staff members have volunteered to take part in the TOUGHMUDDER 5K challenge to raise funds for the homeless charity at Docklands Settlement.

As Homelessness has increased significantly across London over the past decade, it is a matter that is close to all of our hearts here at NewmanFrancis.

It is exciting to be connected to the Docklands Settlement Centre as we see first hand the time, effort and dedication that this charity puts into supporting those in need.

Our main goal is to raise £2,000 to help provide the homeless with essentials such as sleeping bags, pants, socks & toiletries.

Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page and support this amazing project.

About the shelter:

Everyday, Monday to Friday from 9am until mid-day, 25 to 30 homeless people enter the Docklands Centre to use their facilities. Each person has the opportunity to:

  • take a shower as they are given a clean towel and all their toiletries
  • have something to eat from the daily food bank
  • receive a hot drink

In addition to this, the centre closes for 2 weeks of the year, the last week of December and the first week on January. During this time it opens up its doors as a 24-hour homeless shelter, proving 100 beds.  Volunteers who sign up to help at the shelter are from all walks of life from doctors, dentists, hairdressers, barbers, teachers, students, and even chefs.

The project's mission is to provide warmth and shelter at every opportunity.
