Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

On Tuesday morning we reported my Dad as a missing person to the police. He left the house on Monday and didn’t come home that evening. When his car was found on Tuesday evening on Barningham Moor the following organisations jumped into action to search for him -

Barnard Castle Police

Teesdale and Weardale Search and Mountain Rescue Team

Swaledale Mountain Rescue Team

Cleveland Mountain Rescue Team

Royal Air Force Mountain Rescue Service from RAF Leeming

Mountain Rescue Search Dogs England

South East Cave Rescue Organisation - SECRO

The search went on late into the night on Tuesday and started again the following morning. My Dad was located by a mountain rescue team member on Wednesday afternoon but he had sadly died.

My mum and I were overwhelmed by the speed and scale of the operation. It was a huge comfort to know that so many people (and animals) were out on the moors looking for him. You don’t realise how many amazing people are out there waiting to help you until something terrible happens.

The search was coordinated by Teesdale and Weardale Search and Mountain Rescue Team. The rescue team consists of about 50 volunteers, all on call 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. All the volunteers have full time jobs and meet almost all their own expenses.

Annual running costs of over £35,000 are met entirely by voluntary donations, grants, charitable trusts and sponsorship.

I’ve set up this Just Giving page to raise some funds for this incredible organisation and hopefully create something positive around the death of a much loved Dad, Husband and Grandad.

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving - they'll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they'll send your money directly to the charity. So it's the most efficient way to donate - saving time and cutting costs for the charity.

About the charity

The team operates 24 hours per day every day of the year, responding to requests by the police to a range of incidents, from injured or lost people in the hills to vulnerable missing people in urban settings.
