Alzheimer Scotland is the leading, national dementia charity in Scotland. Our mission is to make sure nobody faces dementia alone. We provide advice, information and support and we are here for people living with dementia, their families and carers across Scotland.

Story

Winnie looked after me and my brothers and sisters when we were little. She was like our Newcastle granny!

She was the kindest and sweetest person and always took the time to care for us. She was very strict also and a strong believer in physical punishment - which did me good! :-)

I was lucky to be able to stay close to her long after I grew up and when she was ill, she asked that I was her power of attorney.

This gave me the chance to return some of that love and care for her.

Sadly she developed dementia and required round the clock care. She was very grateful for the love and support she received and I saw at first hand, the devastating effect that dementia has on the individual, but also the close family.

It will affect many more of us until we find a treatment and because of this, I am hoping to raise awareness and funding.
