Story
The Salter’s Institute was founded in 1918, and is one of the country's leaders in the field of science curriculum development within education.
Its original purpose was to assist young chemists returning from the war who wished to continue with their chemistry studies. The Institute aims to promote the appreciation of chemistry and related sciences among the young, and to encourage careers in the teaching of chemistry.
One of the main focuses is The Salter’s Festivals for Chemistry for 11-13 year olds, which are held at local universities across the country. Activities include two practical challenges and a fun lecture. Approximately 55 events are held annually, at over 45 different universities.
With this year being the 100th anniversary of the Institute, the aim is to expand the Festivals to encourage more budding young chemists.
