Dogs for Autism

Dorney Triathlon · 13 June 2021
Autism effects people in many different ways. The severity of the developmental disorder is variable and effects the entire family, the family relationships and the dynamics change and your life is not what you thought it would be like.
Our daughter was diagnosed at 3 years old with high functional autism and has faced varied challenges in her 7 years so far. Although she will (and does), live a relatively independent life, there are other children who find daily life extremely challenging. This is where Dogs for Autism can change not only the life of the child but also the entire family. These dogs are so precious, they are a companion giving parents and children a more independent life in a safer environment, making them feel more relaxed and secure, less lonely, encouraging physical movement and help to reset the equilibrium when their sensors are in over drive!
For this reason I wanted to raise money for Dogs for Autism to help a child benefit form the skills and love given by a trained dog. It had to be something challenging......An Olympic Triathlon!! Yikes!...... 1 mile swim, 25 mile bike ride and 10K run!
Those who know me know I love fitness and also know I don't really swim.... I can swim a length (25m) just, don't like my head in the water or being out of my depth! And know I'm not a great fan of cycling..... had to dust off my mountain bike!! ....But hey I love running, when my knees don't hurt! To achieve this will be amazing but it will be made more amazing knowing the money raised will enhance a child and family's life.
It costs in excess of £20,000 to train and support each dog, and the charity relies entirely on donations. Each dog can change the life of not only its person, but the life of the whole family unit. We are really grateful for any help you may feel able to provide. Thank you.
