Story
On 10th September I am starting a 9 day, 969 mile cycle ride from Lands End to John O'Groats - with 41,000ft of climbing (1 1/2 times the height of Mount Everest!).
How the hell did all this start?! - About 4 or so years back, I started having some health issues and one of the things on my doctor's 'advice list' was do some more regular exercise. The conversation went something like, what exercise did you do as a kid and the subject of cycling came up. Where do you work he asked and having established this was around 10 miles away, suggested I consider cycling into work.
A few weeks later and I set off...
...how long did that 10 miles feel!
A year or so later and someone at work spoke of taking part in a 35 mile sportive (WTF was that I thought at the time); 'of course' was my reply having no clue what I'd just agreed to. What bike are you going to use he asked, why the ancient mountain bike I commute in on I replied...
...much merriment later and the phrase 'road bike' was mentioned. A very few months later and a few thousand pounds lighter and the rest, as they say is history!
This year has seen me cycle over 3500 miles in training to tackle some of the hilliest (and most beautiful) terrain in the country.

So why Paralympic GB as my charity of choice. Simply, who could fail to have been completely inspired by the London 2012 Paralympics!
Paralympics GB are the charity that support British athletes through each Paralympic Games. With Rio 2016 about to get underway and a target of 121 medals, they have one chance to ensure that Britain's Paralympians receive the best possible preparations to compete, and win, against the rest of the world. Through these performances they have an opportunity to inspire change in the way people with a disability are perceived.
