Story
Thanks for visiting my JustGiving page.
I am cycling from Lands End to Dover for Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF) in support of, and alongside Carl, my good friend from University. Carl’s son Toby was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes when he was just 17 months old in Easter 2008. Having known Toby since he was a baby, it’s incredible how well he’s adapted to living with this condition.
Managing the condition requires a constant balance of exercise and insulin therapy to maintain blood-glucose levels as close to normal as possible. Since diagnosis, nearly 5 years ago, Toby has drawn blood from his finger nearly 15,000 times to measure his blood-glucose levels. He has also administered almost 10,000 insulin injections.
Toby’s sense of normality has only been made possible by the amazing job that Carl & Hannah have done. To read more about Toby’s story, please visit Carl’s page on http://www.justgiving.com/jdrfchallenges2013.
Carl is attempting to raise £5,000 for JDRF by completing 8 challenges in 6 months.
1. 21 April - Virgin London Marathon
2. 26 May - Dorney Triathlon
3. 1-2 June - Welsh 3,000s in 24 hours
4. 15 June - South Cerney Triathlon
5. 1-5 July - Lands End to Dover cycle
6. 27-28 July - Virgin Active London Triathlon
7. 31 August - Lyke Wake Walk
8. 15 September - HSBC Triathlon
Now, I’m not as iron man as Carl but I, along with 4 other friends, are doing the Lands Ends to Dover cycle, that’s 420 miles in 4 days! To see the route in more detail go to http://www.mapmytracks.com/events/jdrf---lands-end-to-dover.
For more information on all of Carl’s challenges please see https://www.facebook.com/JdrfChallenges2013 or http://www.jdrf.org.uk/get-involved/thank-you/six-months-eight-challenges-for-jdrf
All the money raised on this page will link into Carl’s overall target so even if you sponsor me or donate on Carl’s page directly it’s all going into the same pot.
So please dig deep and donate now to give real help to kids with Type 1 Diabetes - just like Toby.
