Story
Update 1st to 28th June: 100% complete (1920 - 2020)
Ascent Climb to date: 46,490 ft
Distance to date: 210.21 miles
The Royal Corps of Signals celebrates its 100th year since formation. Unfortunately, all the events planned for this historic milestone in our Corps history have been cancelled due to Covid-19. This means that much needed income into the Corps Charity has been greatly reduced. As an initiative it has been decided for individuals to participate in a 100 mile challenge throughout the month of June. "This can be any challenge, cycle, swim, run, walk or roller blade; whatever you want!"
Therefore I have decided to walk and stumble up Box Hill in Surrey to the 'look out' from the 'stepping stones' across the River Mole 100 times during June. This route climbs steeply up 279 steps (elevation climb 470 feet) and each lap is 3.34 km; after reaching the top, I will run/jog/walk along the ridge back to the Burford Meadows before repeating the route. I plan and am committed to completing at least 3 per day during the week and then 5 per day at weekends, covering over 330 km and climbing 47,000 ft during June.
(equivalent of: 3 ascents of Mont Blanc (15,780 ft) and Box Hill to Plymouth)
Although this is further than 100 miles, my spin on things was 100 ascents and descents and it will get me out of the house for much needed exercise and an excuse! The full route can be found here: https://www.nationaltrust.org.uk/box-hill/trails/box-hill-stepping-stones-walk
