Birch's 37th Annual Run · 21 May 2017

Since its formation in 2011/12, the Foundation has raised almost £2M for local charities, helping fund a renovation of Leicester Royal Infirmary’s Children’s Outpatient Ward and life-saving equipment desperately needed by the Children’s Intensive Care Unit.

Story

4 months ago, we all nearly lost this lovely man to a cardiac arrest, it was a night we'll never forget!

We consider ourselves very lucky, that due to the quick actions of a few people in the audience at the Mercury awards that night, he was able to get effective CPR, but ultimately it was the defibrillator that saved his life.

This year we'll all be running, kids included to raise much needed funds for more of these valuable life saving pieces of equipment, so that we can help others to tell their 'second chance ' stories like we can.

Please donate what you can, you never know when you or someone you know, will need one of these. Let's make sure they're easily accessible to save lives!

Now for the official jargon.............

Leicester City’s much-loved Ambassador Alan ‘The Birch’ Birchenall will be bringing his annual end of season run to King Power Stadium later this month for an astonishing 37th consecutive year.

Sponsored by Mark English at MJE Contracts and Upton Steel, it takes place ahead of the Club’s final game of another memorable season on Sunday 21 May against AFC Bournemouth, and will this year see the event raise funds for life-saving defibrillators.

It is to this vital equipment, as well as the quick actions of the medical service personnel in attendance, that The Birch owes his life, after he collapsed earlier this year at an awards ceremony and required emergency treatment.

Through Birch’s tireless fundraising in the years gone by, defibrillators have been sent across the county to key areas. So this year, all funds raised on the day will be going towards putting more of these life-saving defibrillators in places where they can have the best possible chance of saving lives, as well as vital CPR training equipment.
