Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
Daisy Leona Spibey was born on January 29th 2010 by emergency cesarean due to pregnancy complications. She was 3 months premature, and weighed jusy 690 grammes. She was taken straight down to the Neonatal unit of the QMC hospital where she was put straight onto a ventilator and into an incubator.
It was our first time as parents, and to see this tiny, helpless and beautiful little girl suddenly burst unexpectedly into the world and be hooked straight up to machines and wires was a terrifying time for us both. It was a week before we could even hold our little daughter, as she had become very poorly with an infection and had some problems with her lungs caused by prematurity.
The next 3 months were an unbelievable rollercoaster of progress, setbacks 30 mile middle of the night dashes to hospital, there were times when Daisy was doing so well and making real steps forward, moving from high dependancy to low, moving from incubator to cot, feeding, putting on weight, and within days, another infection, or breathing difficulties had us peering through the plastic of her incubator, full of tears, praying she would still be with us the next day.It was especially difficult for mum, who had made the difficult decision to remain/live at the hospital with Daisy for all the time she there, and not knowing for sure if she would have a child to take home by the end of it.
On May 8th 2010 Daisy was finally ready to come home. We are in no doubt that if it had not been for the dedication and care of all of the staff at the QMC Neonatal unit, Daisy would not be the happy progressing and growing little girl she is today. The care and compasion my partner and i recieved was fantastic and always there when we needed it, the facilites offered to us to try to comfort or make life that little bit easier where excellent.
This was the most difficult time of our lives, and we could not have asked or wished for more care support than we received from all of the staff at both the QMC Neonatal unit and Nottingham city hospital Neonatal unit.
To show just how much this has meant to us, and to help other families that have to go through similar times, myself, my brother and a freind intend to do a sponsored 172 mile coast to coast cycle ride, to raise as much as we can for the Nottingham Neonatal Service Trust. We are certainly not as fit as we once were, so for us to complete this in the 3 days target will really be a challenge!!!
Any monies raised will help the Nottingham neonatal Service to financially support the special and intensive care baby units at the QMC and and Nottingham City Hospital, Donate life saving equipment and provide facilities for families within the units.
The 100 days that Daisy spend in hospital cost tens of thousands of pounds, with your help, we can give some of that back for the next little life that needs hep to make it.
