19 days to go and I have reached my target! Thank you to everyone who has donated so far - some of you I haven't met or haven't seen for years. ..you have all been incredibly generous. Training not quite going to plan but will get round. will keep you posted xx
Hiya
My gorgeous 6 year old nephew Samuel was diagnosed with Polycystic Kidney Disease (PKD) when he was a baby, a rare condition affects 1 in 20,000 births in the UK. It is incurable with dialysis and transplantation the only long-term life-saving treatments combined with blood pressure management and on going monitoring / control of other complications. It is highly likely that Samuel will need a transplant during his lifetime :(
The PKD Charity is a fantastic but very underfunded organisation who support those affected, their families and carers, with information help and understanding. They raise awareness and fund research into the causes of PKD with the hope of discovering treatments and a cure.
My sister Louise and her husband Mark went to an information day run by the PKD charity where they met other families who are affected by this disease and found out more from experts in that field. Samuel takes his medicine 3 times a day, has regular visits to the doctors and hospital but never moans or complains - he is a crazy 6 year old boy!
I wanted to help....but apart from being a very cool Auntie (!!!) I have decided to challenge myself to do a bit of running so I am running the Bupa Great South Run on 27th October. If you could spare a couple of quid then it all counts!
So thank you for taking the time to visit my page, if you are interested in finding out more then please visit www.pkdcharity.org.uk
Many thanks - this is for Sammy Sheep & his little brother Henry :)
Milf xx
PS if you havent already registered as NHS Organ Donor then please do. I hate to be all doom and gloom but 1 in 8 people who have a kidney transplant have ADPKD.......
