I am raising money for the Sheffield branch of Samaritans. Every six seconds someone contacts Samaritans, via phone, email, text message or face-to-face. In the 3.5 years I have been a Samaritans volunteer I must have spoken to thousands of people, from all over the UK and ROI, who were in distress and needed someone to be there for them. Mental health services are massively overstretched, benefit and social service cuts are leaving people desperate and isolated, and Samaritans' aim is to make sure there is always someone there, for anybody who needs someone.
