Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page. On July 3rd, I will be running the 25k Peak District Challenge for the MS Society.
During my time at university, I had the pleasure of working with Dale and Carolyn. As far as part-time jobs go, this was quite the jackpot: not only did our relationship develop into lasting friendship, but I was routinely filled with enough homemade scones and allotment-grown vegetables to make most City bonuses seem modest.
Since Dale’s death in 2018, Carolyn has been keen to hold an annual event, not only to celebrate Dale’s life, but to raise money for multiple sclerosis research. June 2019 saw a wonderful gathering in Regent’s Park for a 5k run, followed by a performance from the London Doctors’ Orchestra and Choir (which I unapologetically missed due to a scheduling clash with the Champions League final). The ongoing pandemic prevented any event in 2020, but I hope the Peak District Challenge is late enough in the summer to avoid rescheduling.
Donations are critical to the ongoing research that is constantly changing what it means to live with MS. Whilst a lot remains unknown about the disease, and there is still no cure, the research undertaken over even just the last few decades has seen life-changing breakthroughs: over a dozen licenced disease-modifying therapies for relapsing remitting MS, and around 50 potential treatments for progressive MS currently in clinical trial. MS Society’s goal is, by 2025, ‘to be in the final stages of testing treatments for everyone with MS’.
As with most charities, the effects of Coronavirus have greatly reduced donations over this past year; but with a tangible goal in sight, every pound donated to the MS Society makes a real, meaningful difference. I’m sure many of you have felt the financial strain of this past year’s pandemic, but any donation, no matter how small, would be greatly appreciated.
