Story

Monty, Nico, Will and Jacob will be cycling from London to Land's End this August for The Brain Tumour Charity.  The purpose of this ride is not only to challenge ourselves but to raise awareness about the amazing work this charity is doing to find a cure for this awful disease.

For Nico and Monty, this means a huge deal. In August 2015 Julian Rooth (Nico's Dad) was diagnosed with a brain tumour. The news was both shocking and frightening as the thought of tackling such an illness would have been incredibly hard for both Julian and the family. Julian had an operation in London and underwent chemo and radiotherapy for months, fighting for his life. After months of treatment and trips to London, Julian had seemed to have overcome the disease. He worked hard daily to build up his strength and his morale improved day by day. So in October 2016, the news that the tumour was growing again was extremely hard to take and devastating for everyone who knows Julian. Julian underwent a second operation and now continues to fight for his life day by day. This really hit home for the Rooth family how devastating this disease is.

Monty's father, Chris Martin-Zakheim, was diagnosed with an aggressive malignant brain tumour in July 2016.  He was told that he would undergo surgery to have it removed, and the plan was for him to undergo radiotherapy and chemotherapy for 6 weeks.  As the fittest and healthiest man there is, he recovered from the surgery very quickly but despite their best efforts, the doctors couldn't remove all of the tumour, and he was given a prognosis of 12 months.  The doctors said that he would have 6 months of chemotherapy (after radiotherapy) that might contain the tumour; but after those 6 months, the chance of survival is just 4%. The treatment is extremely debilitating and the operation has left Chris with nerve damage down his left side, which makes some basic actions very difficult.  He is currently midway through his chemotherapy and fighting hard, but this pernicious disease has taken a huge mental and physical toll on him and his family.

Hi, I'm Jacob and this summer I'll be cycling with Nico, Monty and Will to Land's End from London. Over the last 4 years, I have been fortunate enough to be mates with two of the bravest and most resilient people I have ever met in Nico and Monty. What they have both been through over the last 2 years has been horrendous and shocking, but they have both got down to it and always have a smile on their faces. When I heard that they wanted to do do a fundraiser over the summer, I leaped at the opportunity to help in any way I could. They are such amazing people and even better friends. Nobody of their age should have to deal with what they have had to, and donating to The Brain Tumour Charity may mean that situations like this can be avoided in the future. Please donate kindly as you will be making a huge difference to not only their lives but everyone else's who have had to put up with this awful disease.

Hi, I'm Will and I will also be joining Nico, Monty and Jacob on our cycle ride from London to Land's End. I immediately wanted to be part of this event as soon as it was being thought about in order to support Nico and Monty, two close friends who have seen at first hand the awful effects of brain tumours on people close to them. Both Nico and Monty have been extremely brave and strong to deal with such shocking circumstances and I hope I can support them in any way I can. By supporting The Brain Tumour Charity, we can hopefully help to reach a time where we no longer have to worry about brain tumours and the effects they have on the lives of the people involved. Please donate generously and help us to really make a difference for those suffering from these horrific circumstances.
